Zambia

“The rewards of travelling in Zambia are those of exploring remote, mesmerising wilderness as full of an astonishing diversity of wildlife as any part of Southern Africa. Adventures undertaken here will lead you deep into the bush where animals, both predators and prey, wander through unfenced camps, where night-time means swapping stories around the fire and where the human footprint is nowhere to be seen. Where one day you can canoe down a wide, placid river and the next raft through the raging rapids near world-famous Victoria Falls.”

“If you’ve never walked amongst the animals in Zambia then you’ve never really  been on safari.”

Awe-Inspiring Natural Wonders

Blessed with awe-inspiring natural wonders, an abundance of wildlife, huge water bodies and vast open spaces, Zambia offers unforgettable holidays exploring the real Africa.

Acknowledged as one of the safest countries in the world to visit, Zambia’s welcoming people live in peace and harmony. And here, in the warm heart of Africa, you will find some of the finest Safari experiences on the planet, including face to face encounters with Nature at its most wild.

Spectacular waterways provide adrenaline-thrills or a leisurely playground of activities for all ages. Seventeen magnificent waterfalls, apart from the spectacular Victoria Falls, provide ‘cascade followers’ an adventure into the remote undeveloped rural areas where  a taste of village life can be experienced. Spectacular daily sunsets are almost guaranteed.

About 30 % of Zambia’s 752,614 square kilometers is reserved for wildlife. There are 20 national parks and 34 game management areas in the country.  South Luangwa, Kafue and Lower Zambezi rank among the finest game parks in the world. Luambe, and Lukusuzi Liuwa Plain, West Lunga, Sioma Ngwezi, and Nyika Plateau have substantial wildlife but are still undeveloped. Mosi-oa-Tunya, near Victoria Falls, is regarded as a Zoological park as it has a well managed population of antelope, elephants, giraffe and rhino, but does not have any predators.

Wildlife

Zambia is an excellent safari destination and most of the high profile animals are relatively easily seen. Large animals like the elephant, giraffe, cape buffalo, zebra and hippopotamus are in abundance while the predators like lion, leopard and hyena are commonly sighted at all of the safari parks.

South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi and Kafue are particularly good for leopard sightings, but wild dogs and cheetah are harder to see. Black rhino is only present in North Luangwa and white rhino only in Mosi-oa-Tunya.

Zambia has many interesting, endemic sub-species including Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest and Crawshay’s zebra. The Kafue lechwe and the black lechwe are specials in specific swampy areas.

The best game viewing time coincides with the Dry season (May to October) when water is scarce and animals congregate to waterholes and rivers. The bush is less lush at this time, and animals are easier to spot. From October until the rains, it can be unbearably hot. Some roads become impassable during the Wet season (November-April) and several parks and camps close at this time.
