Kenya
“Kenya is where “going on safari” started. A hundred years or so ago, visitors from all over the world, including Teddy Roosevelt, started traveling to Africa, lured by stories of multitudes of wild animals; there were more than 3 million large mammals roving East Africa’s plains at the time. Today visitors continue to flock to this East African nation each year. Although humans have made their mark, Kenya still holds onto its pristine wilderness.”

FIRST AND FOREMOST
Located in East Africa and straddling the equator, Kenya is the most famous and revered of all Africa safari destinations. It boasts the Masai Mara National Park, renowned for its abundant wildlife and annual Great Migration and various other national parks and reserves that are brimming with wildlife. It is a country full of romance, thrill and adventure – nothing says “classic safari” quite like a Kenyan safari. A Kenyan safari not only boasts spectacular natural beauty in one of the most unspoiled places on earth, but it also brings you up close and personal with Africa’s most sought-after wildlife.
Because it was the first established African safari destination, the country’s infrastructure had been built over time to link all of the safari parks with ease and offers great services for numerous types of safari itineraries. All of the great early safari tour operators in the earlier days learned their lessons on how one goes about making safaris enjoyable and safe in Kenya. From the south and scenic Amboseli and Chyulu Hills to the immense plains of the Masaai Mara to the rhino sanctuary in the Meru, short flights link all of these areas seamlessly. It makes for a comfortable and memorable safari experience.
WILDLIFE
The diversity of Kenya’s wildlife has garnered international fame, especially for its populations of large mammals. On one of our recent adventures, just as our Land Cruiser left the camp in the North conservancy of the Masaai Mara, we immediately came upon a pride of lions fending off a dozen hyenas all fighting for the carcass of a freshly killed topi.
This is how vast and diverse the animals are in the Mara Plains. During the months of June – October, there are herds upon herds of animals all migrating north to the great plains of south western Kenya. The same can be witnessed in other parts of the country as Kenya is teeming with wild life year-round.
The most famous Kenya Animals are known as ‘The Big 5’ and the animals behind the ‘The Big 5’ are: Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos.
It sure is a sight to behold to see these animals in their natural habitats and in their elements. It is a wonderful experience the roar of a Lion or the trumpeting of a bull Elephant in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, in a tent with no fences anywhere close. It is an encounter, that you will remember as a very special moment and stay with you for a long time.
Of course, there are interesting animals besides the ‘Big 5’ that peaks peoples’ interests. From the Giraffes, Zebras, Hippos, Baboons, Wildebeests, Warthog to all the different Antelopes, Gazelles and numerous, distinctive Bird species, Kenya has it all.
