Tanzania
“I have been to all the continents and experience many breath taking moments, but few compare to the feeling of being surrounded by a million animals migrating to follow the rain, find food and survive.”
– fellow traveler describing Tanzania
“From the majestic peak of Kilimanjaro to the moving herds of the Serengeti to the beauty of Ngorogoro then to the beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania has it all for a diverse, challenging and awe-inspiring journey.”
– Sir David Attenborough
Country Wide Diversity
Tanzania is the ultimate safari destination for diversity of choices – from the million animal migration of the Serengeti, the beauty of the Ngorogoro Crater, the photogenic, snow-capped heights of Kilimanjaro, the tranquil waters of the Selous, the elephant country that is Tarangire, the dry river beds of Ruaha and the beaches of Zanzibar. All of Tanzania’s safari parks have their own special appeal, which makes it a really great choice for a safari vacation.
When choosing which safari areas to visit in Tanzania, one can follow the general rule, which is to choose going the North circuit or the South circuit. The northern circuit is the famous stomping ground of the Wildebeest Great Migration |(over 1 million animals) which naturally attracts the highest concentration of predators in Africa. Combine a trip to the Serengeti with a few nights on top of the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara or Tarangire. For the adventurous, one can also climb Mount Kilimanjaro before setting off on safari. The other choice would be to take on the southern circuit to experience Tanzania’s charming ‘off the beaten track’ reserves, such as Ruaha National Park and the Selous Game Reserve. Both outstanding in animal interactions.
Tanzania also offers other options such as the seeing the chimps of Mahale and the wild appeal of Katavi – parks that receive very few visitors indeed. These parks are located in the western part of the country and is normally combined with the southern circuit for a diverse holiday. And to combine an amazing safari experience with relaxation on the beach, just off Tanzania’s coast lies Zanzibar. A 20 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam, the island offers fascinating history and exceptional beaches.
Wildlife
Tanzania has all the safari animals. From the big 5 to the amazingly reclusive pangolin,
Tanzania has a healthy wildlife population all over the country.
Tanzania contains some 20 percent of the species of Africa’s large mammal population, found across its reserves, conservation areas, marine parks, and 17 national parks, spread over an area of more than 42,000 square kilometres (16,000 sq mi) and forming approximately 40 percent of the country’s territory. Wildlife resources of Tanzania are described as “without parallel in Africa” and “the prime game viewing country” from most safari experts. Serengeti National Park, the country’s second largest national park area at 14,700+ square kilometres (5,700 sq miles), is located in northern Tanzania and is famous for its extensive migratory herds of wildebeests and zebra while also having the reputation as one of the great natural wonders of the world.
